  • Federated/virtual database

A way to view and query several databases as if they were a single entity. The goal is to be able to look at data in a more unified way without having to duplicate it across multiple databases or manually combine the results from multiple queries.

  • Fedora

A popular open source Linux-based operating system. Fedora is said to be the second-most commonly used Linux distribution, after Ubuntu.

  • Fiber Connectivity (FICON)

A high-speed input/output (I/O) interface for mainframe computer connections to storage devices. As part of IBM's S/390 server, FICON channels increase I/O capacity through the combination of a new architecture and faster physical link rates.

  • Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI)

A set of ANSI and ISO standards for data transmission on fiber optic lines in a local area network (LAN) that can extend in range up to 200 km (124 miles). The FDDI protocol is based on the token ring protocol.

  • Fiber Optic Communication

Fiber-optic communication is a method of transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of light through an optical fiber. The light forms an electromagnetic carrier wave that is modulated to carry information.

  • Fiber Optic Service (FiOS)

Fiber to the premises (FTTP) telecommunications service offered by Verizon to consumers in the United States. A typical FiOS package includes high-speed Internet access along with cable TV and basic telephone service.

  • Fiber To The Home (FTTH)

The installation and use of optical fiber from a central point directly to individual buildings such as residences, apartment buildings and businesses to provide unprecedented high-speed Internet access.

  • Fibre Channel

A technology for transmitting data between computer devices at data rates of up to 4 Gbps. Fibre Channel is especially suited for connecting computer servers to shared storage devices and for interconnecting storage controllers and drives.

  • Fibre Channel (FC) port

A hardware pathway into and out of a node that performs data communications over an FC link.

  • Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)

A storage protocol that enable Fibre Channel communications to run directly over high-speed Ethernet infrastructure. The goal of FCoE is to consolidate input/output and reduce switch complexity, and to cut back on cable and interface card counts.

  • Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP)

A.k.a Fibre Channel tunneling or storage tunneling, is an Internet Protocol (IP)-based storage networking technology. It enable the transmission of Fibre Channel (FC) information by tunneling data between SAN facilities over IP networks.

  • Fibre to the cabinet (FTTC)

FTTC is described as the next generation of internet connectivity. It uses fibre optic connection, that gives faster download and upload speeds. It is often known as 'Fibre Broadband'.

  • Fibre to the premises (FTTP)

The internet connection between an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and a user's home or business using fiber optic cable. It is faster than dial-up and most coaxial cable Internet connections.

  • FICO SAP

FICO, also called Finance and Controlling, helps integrate the accounting side of a business. All the financial sections like Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Tax, etc are incorporated into SAP. • Field Emission Display (FED)

A new type of flat-panel display in which electron emitters, arranged in a grid, are individually controlled by "cold" cathodes to generate colored light. FED technology makes possible the thin panel of today's liquid crystal displays (LCD).
