  • Interactive Voice Response (IVR)

Interactive voice response (IVR) is a technology that allows a computer to interact with humans through the use of voice and DTMF tones input via keypad.  IVR systems can respond with prerecorded or dynamically generated audio to further direct users on how to proceed. IVR applications can be used to control almost any function where the interface can be broken down into a series of simple interactions. IVR systems deployed in the network are sized to handle large call volumes.

  • Interface Definition Language (IDL)

  • Interior Gateway Protocol (IGP)

  • Interlaced display

A cathode-ray tube (CRT) display in which the lines are scanned alternately in two interwoven rasterized lines. There are several hundred horizontal lines in a frame. These lines are scanned from left to right, and from top to bottom.

  • Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System protocol (IS-IS)

A protocol based on a routing method known as DECnet Phase V routing, in which routers known as intermediate systems exchange data about routing using a single metric to determine the network topology.

  • International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA)

An encryption algorithm developed at ETH in Zurich, Switzerland. It uses a block cipher with a 128-bit key, and is generally considered to be very secure. It is considered among the best publicly known algorithms.

  • Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)

An Internet protocol that provides a way for an Internet computer to report its multicast group membership to adjacent routers. Multicasting allows one computer on the Internet to send content to multiple other computers.

  • Internet Information Server (IIS)

A group of Internet servers with additional capabilities for Microsoft's Windows NT and Windows 2000 Server operating systems. IIS is Microsoft's entry to compete in the Internet server market that is also addressed by Apache, Sun Microsystems, etc.
