Mercurial is an open-source and cross-platform distributed revison control tool, implemented using Python Programming. Mercurial is designed to include high performance and scalability, decentralized, fully distributed collaborative development, robust handling of both plain text and binary files, and advanced branching and merging capabilities, while remaining conceptually simple. It supports Windows, Unix, Mac OS X and Linux. Accessed primarily using a command line program, all of Mercurial's operations are invoked as arguments to its driver program hg, a reference to the chemical symbol of the element mercury.
