  • Higgins Trust Framework (HTF)

An open source project under development by the Eclipse Foundation that seeks to make sharing of identity information easier and more secure. IBM, Novell and Parity Communications are among the organizations contributing to the project.

  • High Availability (HA)

In information technology, high availability refers to a system or component that is continuously operational for a desirably long length of time. Availability can be measured relative to "100% operational" or "never failing".

  • High Definition Compatible Digital (HDCD)

A digital encoding and decoding process for compact disc and DVD audio recording. The HDCD process manages to encode 20 bits of audio information into a conventional CD 16-bit channel, yielding a greater dynamic range.

  • High Level Assembler (HLASM)

IBM's assembler programming language and the assembler itself for the IBM z/OS, z/VM, OS/390, MVS, VM, and VSE operating systems. HLASM translates basic computer instructions to machine code.

  • High Performance File System (HPFS)

The file system introduced with IBM's OS/2 Version 1.2. HPFS is noted for handling large files (2 GB) across multiple hard disk volumes (addressable up to 2 terabytes) and long file names (up to 256 bytes).

  • High Performance Storage System (HPSS)

A storage management system especially designed for moving large files and large amounts of data around a nework that may consist of parallel processing computers, supercomputers, and clusters of high-end workstations.

  • High Speed Circuit Switched Data (HSCSD)

A circuit-switched wireless data transmission for mobile users at data rates up to 38.4 Kbps, four times faster than the standard data rates of the Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication standard in 1999.

  • High value government data

Any data that can increase agency accountability and responsiveness; improve public knowledge of the agency and its operations; further the core mission of the agency; create economic opportunity; or respond to need and demand.

  • High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCD)

A specified method from Intel for protecting copyrighted digital entertainment content that uses the Digital Video Interface (DVI) by encrypting its transmission between the video source and the digital display (receiver).

  • High-Definition (HD) downconverter

A device that converts HDT video to standard-definition video that can be viewed on TV receivers or computer monitors, or recorded on DVD . A downconverter performs these functions with a minimum of blurring, aliasing , and conversion noise.

  • High-Definition (HD) upconverter

A.k.a. Digital Television ( DTV ) upconverter, is a device that converts the digital data on a DVD to a format that can be viewed directly on a HDTV receiver without intermediate conversion to an analog signal.

  • High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)

An industry standard for creating audio and video connections between high-definition electronic devices. HDMI supports two-way digital communication between the video source and the video display with one cable.

  • High-Density - Read Only Memory (HD-ROM)

A high-capacity storage technology developed at Norsam Technologies in conjunction with an IBM research group that enables a disk to store hundreds of times as much information as a CD-ROM.

  • High-Density DVD (HD-DVD)

A high capacity optical storagemedium. A single-layer HD-DVD provides up to 15 gigabytes (GB) of storage capacity and the double-layer disc offers up to 30 GB. A standard single-sided, single-layer DVD offers 4.7 GB storage capacity.

  • High-density server

A blade server is a server chassis housing multiple thin, modular electronic circuit boards, known as server blades. Each blade is a server in its own right, often dedicated to a single application.

  • High-level Data Link Control (HDLC)

A group of protocols or rules for transmitting data between network points (sometimes called nodes). In HDLC, data is organized into a unit (called a frame) and sent across a network to a destination that verifies its successful arrival.
